Assalam Alaikum, Hello everyone!
This post is dedicated to those of you who are looking to do your Bachelor’s Degree in the Maldives.
DISCLAIMER: This is not an endorsed post or a business promotion of any sort, it is just a heartfelt post about my opinion.
I did my Bachelor’s Degree at Villa College. They offer a variety of courses out of which I chose Bachelor of Arts (Hons) Business Management (http://villacollege.edu.mv/qi/public/programes/26/9).
Okay so let’s talk about the degree. The program is offered by the University of West of England (UWE) [https://www.uwe.ac.uk/]. For a girl who comes from the island, lives in Male’ City for rent and works a full-time job to pay bills it was quite a challenge to find a suitable degree. So for me, getting to do a UK degree while still going to work and also most importantly getting to be with my family and friends was what sealed the deal!
For those who have got less time, I shortlisted the reasons why I recommend Villa College and their degree:
- The course content
- The assessment methods
- The lecturers
- The Campus
- The library
- Flexibility
For those who wants to know the details, here you go.
So, when choosing the course the one of the things that grabbed my interest was the course content, and boy I was not disappointed. The course content and assignments were organised in a way in which the students not only get the textbook information but also gets to work individually and in teams to learn better. My favorite parts were the simulations. The degree was of three years and in which we did 2 simulations, where we managed an online business in groups of four to five and submitted growth reports and a presentation at the end. The assessments were not just exam based but also consisted of individual and group assignments. The assignments included presentations, posters, infographics, simulations, elevator pitches etc. Believe me, you learn a set of skills that no written exam can teach you.
We were taught by an amazing team of lecturers who not only just taught us textbook definitions and theories but also drew on their own experience and gave us real life scenarios to work on. The classes were interesting and packed with many learning experiences and valuable lessons. I met great lecturers who have become people I look forward to as inspirations!
The CAMPUS! I studied at Villa College QI campus at Male’ City. OH MY GOD! It is all shades of green and blue. So beautiful and relaxing. It’s always refreshing to grab a snack from the canteen and just sit on one of those benches surrounded by trees and best of friends.
The Villa college Library is super resourceful, I have never gone there and come out empty handed. You can find a vast choice of books of all genres. They also help you track the book and get it for you on your request. The student desk staff are always reliable and helpful. Whether it was finding an empty class for us to do group works and study or sorting some issue with Moodle they were always there.
I loved the flexibility I got over the three years of my degree. Starting from attendance to submitting assignments. Being a full-time worker and a full-time student is a very challenging and the flexibility offered made it easier.
I personally believe that it is one of the best degrees available in the Maldives. I have friends studying and have studied many other degrees, and in my opinion none other consists of such a mix of learning experience. I am a proud Alumni of Villa College.
